Year 3 trip to a chocolate factory

What a lovely day we had at the Chocolate factory. We had a guided tour of the factory. Tried
dark, milk and white chocolate, found out how chocolate is made and how it is formed into shapes. Next, we went to the chocolate room and found out about cocoa beans and the carbon footprint that chocolate has. Finally, we visited the magical sweet shop - the children and staff had a fantastic day. Year 3 behaved superbly and were a credit to the school.

Year 3 and 4 raise money for Children In Need

This year we raised over £1100 for Children In Need, and years 3 and 4 certainly played their part. Well done to all of the children for raising so much money for a fantastic cause.

Mark Colbourne - Olympic Paralympic Gold Medalist

Mark Colbourne - Olympic Paralympic Gold Medallist came to our school today to give us all a glimpse of a gold medal, inspire us with his amazing story and give us an extra PE lesson. All of the children had their photograph with Mark and the Gold Medal. He spent the whole afternoon with our children and game them inspiration to follow their dreams. Thank you Mark

Data Handling

This week in year 3/4 we have been looking at data handling in maths, in particular we have been looking at pictograms. We have done lots of work in our books but it is important to make sure that we make maths real in as many ways as possible. Here is a human pictogram. It has a title, labels for each row and a key. It shows the children's favorite foods.

Reporting in Pontyclun

In  year 3 we are looking at recounts, as our topic is the weather, and we were subjected to a lot of rain last week, we decided to write a fictional recount on "Pontyclun in flood". We went to the river on Wednesday to look and listen at the fast flowing water. We came up with adjectives to describe what we could see and hear before filling in our planning forms explaining What Where, Why, Who and When the fictional flood happened. We are going to become reporters next week as we write up our recounts in pencil before creating a newspaper report with images, headlines and text in Microsoft word.
