Magnets and Springs

We have been carrying out different experiments this term on magnets and springs. In our first experiment we had a selection of different objects and we had to predict which ones were magnetic and which materials were not. We had some interesting results. We discovered that an old 2p coin(1972) was magnetic and a recent (2008) 2p coin wasn't. We used our communication skills asking questions and responding to each other.

We've also discovered which type of magnet has the strongest pull. We investigated this with paper clips.

This week we investigated the force of an elastic band on small toy cars. We had a selection of toy cars and had to predict how far the car would travel when we pulled back on the elastic band. We had some interesting results and had lots of fun watching the cars whizzing across the hall floor. We used our number skills by measuring the distance each car travelled and our ICT skills when some of us took the photos. Here are some of the pictures we took.
