New Year, New Topic!

We hope you all had a lovely Christmas and we would like to wish you a Happy New Year!

As you know we had a very busy half term before Christmas. We went on two trips relating to our topic ‘Flight Engineers’. The first to the National Waterfront Museum and the second to RAF St Athan. The children had lots of fun and learnt lots about flight and aeroplanes.

The children created lots of lovely flying toys and loved making them.

We then had a busy run up to Christmas with the Christmas Concert and a trip to the Pantomime. Busy, Busy!

Now we are all rested and ready for a new topic.

Our topic this Term is ‘Castles and Dragons’.

This term our topic has a history focus and teaches children about aspects of the middle ages of Welsh history between 1063 and 1283, a time that is generally known as Medieval Times. In this topic the children will learn about the important aspects of Welsh history including the Welsh Princes of the time and the four provinces of Gwynedd, Powys, Deheubarth and Morgannwg. They will learn about castles, homes and lives of people during this time.

At the heart of this project children read, write and re-tell myths and create their own stories in the same style. Children will learn additional skills in presenting and recounting historical information.
In the Innovate Stage children play the role of villagers to plan, prepare and present a case for lower taxes to a Welsh Prince of a local castle.

If you have any books or objects relating to this topic please bring them in, as we can display them in our Reading Castles Thank you.
